Crock Pot

We're considering buying a crockpot. The one we're looking at is 4 quarts...is that sufficient for the two of us or do we need a bigger one? Anyone have any great chicken or ground turkey recipes for the crock? Comment or email me with them (amylisa.anderson@gmail.com).

I have 3 crockpots. Maybe 4. They range in size from small to large. 4 is probably okay for two of you, but keep in mind if you make something bigger (like a turkey breast) or something that may have lots of leftovers (good to freeze)you may need more space. I make whimpies (sloppy joes), meatballs and sauce, casserole type things...all kinds of stuff.

Hey! I have this one:

I think it's cheaper at Target. I havent used the 6 qt yet, but use the 2 and 4 a ton. Most meals for just John and I or Just Liv and I fit into the 2 qt and bigger meals work well in the 4 qt. The 6 qt would be good for holidays or to take to a large gathering. I'll email you my favorite recipes.

I just bought one about 2 weeks ago, ever since I had Nolan, I have no time in the afternoon to make supper, so I use the 2 good hrs that I have between 8-10am to make my supper, best thing is I don't have to touch it@!

I would definately say a 4 quart is a good size for you. You have to fill it at least 1/2 full when making things. We have a 6.5 but there are 7 of us with only one not eating at the moment ;)

I'm still looking for chicken/turkey recipes, I've only made roast and steak in it so far and it was DELICIOUS!!!

i have the easier recipe... you take a pot roast, a can of beer (doesnt matter what kind) and a packet of Italian dressing (the seasoning packet, to make your own italian dressing... the kind with the shaker bottle?) anyway, put the roast in, sprinkle the packet, pour beer over the top. set for 8 hours, or something like that. supper yummy, and soft meat. we like to shred it and make roast beef sandwiches.

My mom always made chicken cacciatore in a crock pot. Talk about easy! Slice your preferred veggies (we used onions and peppers) and some pieces of chicken (doesn't matter much how big because they get soft enough to break apart with a fork). Add a big jar of store brand spaghetti sauce (or if you make your own :)). She always cooked it overnight, but I would think 6 or so hours would do it depending on temp (just so the chicken is cooked). Boil pasta and there's dinner. Easy peasy! :)

Hey Amy, I linked to your site from Sarah's. I LOVE my crockpot and highly recommend them. I have a 4 quart and really want a 6-quart. But I ALWAYS cook recipes for 4 because we love leftovers. If you cook meals just for 2 people, then the 4-quart is fine. If you like making a lot of a recipe so you have leftovers, I'd go for the 6 quart.

I have a 6 Qt; but if I could do it again I would spend the money on the one that goes from 2-4-6 Qts.

Sometime I want to make something and it's just so big.

I just bought this: http://www.amazon.com/Southern-Living-Slow-Cooker-Cookbook-Hardcover/dp/0848731069/ref=pd_bbs_7/103-8591253-9496613?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1193165789&sr=8-7 and I have tried about 8 recipes; all delicious.

I also visit this blog: http://slowcookercollection.blogspot.com/ quite often; there are a lot of great recipes and I often get a lot of ideas here as well.

I don't know what size mine is (it's inconveniently-located, so I cannot check), but I think you'll want a bigger one if you plan to make a whole chicken or any larger piece of meat, along w/ whatever else you throw in there. I have a great whole chicken recipe, but sometimes I feel like I'm just squeezing in down far enough to get the top on.

I love my crock pot. We make a yummy cheesy mac and a turkey lasagna that we like in it... I'll try to send you the recipes. They're from Sandra Lee's Semi-Homemade Slow Cooker recipe book.

I have a 6.5 quart and just told my daughter yesterday when I was making vegetable soup that I wish I had a bigger one. I like to freeze soup when I make it and enjoy sending left overs home with my kids when they pop around. So the larger size is my preference even though only the hubby and I are usually here for dinner these days.

Since crocks aren't real expensive you probably would be fine to get a 4 qt. and then later graduate to a bigger one if necessary.

Crock Pots are THE best invention for busy moms!
